SACCUSA Brings South Africans Together in Baltimore Through Rugby and Economic Diplomacy

The Springboks’ historic match against New Zealand in Baltimore became far more than a rugby fixture for South Africans living in the United States. It became a powerful moment of unity, connection and national pride.

SACCUSA hosted and supported a series of events around the rugby weekend that brought South Africans together from across the United States. Members of the diaspora travelled from different states to reconnect with one another, celebrate South African culture and stand united behind the Springboks.

The atmosphere throughout the weekend reflected the very best of the South African community abroad. Old friendships were renewed, new relationships were formed and thousands of South Africans shared a common sense of belonging as they gathered in green and gold.

The weekend also demonstrated how sport can create meaningful opportunities for business engagement. SACCUSA brought together business leaders, partners and stakeholders for discussions around rugby, trade, investment and the promotion of South African products and services in the United States.

South African food, wine, brands and businesses formed part of the broader celebration, providing an opportunity to showcase the country beyond the rugby field and to introduce American partners to the quality, diversity and potential of South African goods and services.

For SACCUSA, this is an important part of economic diplomacy. Sport has a unique ability to bring people together, open doors and create relationships in an environment built on shared experience and goodwill.

The Baltimore rugby weekend showed what is possible when community, business and sport come together. It was a celebration of the Springboks, but also a celebration of South Africans in America and the growing economic and cultural ties between South Africa and the United States.

One team. One community. One shared commitment to building stronger South Africa–USA relations.
