SACCUSA President Mr Neil Diamond had the honour of visiting The Carter Center in Atlanta with Dr Mbongiseni Buthelezi, CEO of the Nelson Mandela Foundation.
The visit highlighted the many synergies between the two organisations, particularly their global commitment to peace, human dignity and positive change. Nelson Mandela and President Jimmy Carter demonstrated how leadership grounded in compassion and dialogue can help transform societies. Both received the Nobel Peace Prize in recognition of their contributions to a more peaceful world. (nobelprize.org)
Their shared vision also found expression through The Elders, founded by Mandela in 2007, with Carter as a founding member—a group of independent global leaders working for peace and human rights. (theelders.org)
We were honoured to receive a special tour of the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and the Carters’ private apartments on the property. Visiting his office offered a rare and personal connection to the man behind the legacy, bringing his remarkable life of service into sharper focus.
One memorable highlight was seeing a manual for U.S. presidents—quite possibly the biggest book we have ever seen! A fitting reminder of the enormous responsibilities of the office.
Thank you to our hosts for this exceptional privilege. SACCUSA is proud to help build connections between South Africa and the United States that honour these enduring legacies and inspire future generations.
